The “Mind Reading” Myth
29 Dec, 2025
With all the celebrating and socialising lately
I’ve been reminded
Of what is probably the most frequent pitfall of being a Psychic Medium
When people meet me or chat with me
I”m often asked:
“So…. What do you do?”
It’s a question that can lead to conversation
Or NOT
The response
Has 2 very distinct reactions
People either lean in
Eyes wide
And want you to tell them EVERYTHING
Or….
They exit your general sphere as quickly as possible
Often casting backward glances to ensure you’re not pursuing them
I want to be clear
I want to educate
And I want to leave this misnomer in the dirt
Where it belongs
Psychics DO NOT read your mind.
It’s quite simply
Just not how it works
“Your thoughts”
Are called that
By nature of the fact
THEY ARE
Yours
And only yours
No other person can read them
Unless you share them
And to do that
You have to be invited
There’s also this other little misconception…
That those of us that do this work
Are a 24hr, 7 day a week, hotspot
If you’re worth getting a reading from
You don’t operate like that
Show me a tradie you can randomly approach
Who will immediately pull out a wrench
And start tinkering because you crossed paths
We’re no different
When this work is done seriously
As an act of service
And supported by training, experience, or credentials
You would need to be invited
That’s what appointments are for
Or dedicated time
Intention is important in any endeavour
Nothing much happens without it
It’s relevant here
The recipient is only ever that
If that is your clear intent
And you action it
When someone makes a booking
They are actively granting permission
To engage with my services and skillset
They’re seeking insight, answers, or clarity
Often there’s a specific question or subject they wish to explore
There is a need to be filled
And shared
Being a Psychic Medium
Does not mean you’re digging through whatever occupies the confines of others minds
It’s only there if you WANT it
Not, if you don’t
We’re not offended
If it’s not your thing
But it is a little sharp
To be dubbed a snoop
Simply because we have an ability
For the greater portion of my life
I had other careers
And the vast majority of people I met
Had absolutely NO idea
I had these skills
I’m apparently….
Considered great company
Good fun
Easy to talk to
I “make people feel seen and heard”
AND.. that’s just me being social
I hope this creates clarity
And brings ease
Relax
Your secrets are safe
And conversation
Is not consent
Much love
Kate
